Introduction to Desktop GIS

Course Story

This course is designed to teach GIS concepts and to help participants get started with ArcGIS. Learners use ArcGIS software to apply GIS concepts. The concepts are grouped into three broad categories:

  • Mapping
  • Data
  • Analysis

In this introductory course, the emphasis will be placed on teaching the foundational concepts that support GIS tasks
rather than on the tools and functions used to perform the tasks. Basic Desktop GIS is designed to teach ArcGIS tools and functions.

Audience

Prerequisites: Knowledge of Windows-based software for basic file management and browsing is required.
